Our cabin story...

We decided to find a parcel of land in Maine to build a log cabin and enjoy the outdoors.  After searching for quite some time we found a parcel of 38 acres on the Mattawamkeag River.  We had initially stayed at the Greenland Cove Cabins in Danforth while we came up for the purchase and while we put up the small cabin. We initially called it the shed or the shack.  Somehow it has transfered into calling it the cabin.  It is actually a nice little setup for two people to fit comfortably in and will get better as we get better organized.  We do have an older camper we will be putting up at the site as well before the end of this year (Fall of 2009) so we will have more comfortable quarters and I can bring Wendy and Leah up.  We are also trying to make sure we have a good driveway and parking area so Pop and Mom can come up in their camper.  So for the time being we have our small cabin that will work for us while we get ready to build the larger log cabin set back further in the property.

Pop and I made the trip up last November to walk the property and give the check for payment once we were satisfied.  Unfortunately we ended up going up during hunting season and it had rained a bit before and while we were there.  We were able to walk the property only a little and found a marsh area in one corner that was never disclosed but figured it did not look too bad and could be a nice wildlife area.  There were other wet areas but we attributed those to rain.  Turns out our seller was a bit unscrupulous and told us specifically there was no wetlands when there was.   So there are some wet and swampy areas on the property to deal with but with 38 acres it shouldn't be too much of a problem.  So while there on our first visit we had brought the chainsaws and trimmers and cleared a small entry way where we figured would be the best entry point into the land.  Pop had found an old logging trail that we walked back and found a nice area that could be cleared in a spruce patch that had the logging trail going right by it.   So that became our path of land clearing
