Our
cabin story...Continued
In
the beginning of June 2009 Pop and I loaded all the materials we would
need to build our small cabin and clear out more of the driveway.
When we got to the site we found a lot of growth had occurred
at
our opening but it was not too bad. So we spent the first
afternoon clearing the driveway path of trees, shrubs and tall weeds.
That gave us enough of a path to hook the trailer to the atv
and
bring up all of the materials to the building site. We spent
our
night at the Greenland Cove Cabins and started bright and early the
next morning setting up the site. We cleared the area to
build
on, leveled off the area and put our cynder blocks down. We
spent
the rest of the day building our small cabin By the time the
day
was over we had the cabin essentially built and just needed to tidy up.
We had put tar paper on the roof since we did not have the
time
or materials to shingle it and hoped for the best on our return.
We
made a second trip in June to bring the old dozer tractor up with Jeff
and were hoping for nice weather that had been forcasted the week
prior. That trip did not go so well...it started off great
though. Nice sunny weather and I met Pop and Jeff at the
Kennebunk Service Area nice and early. We thought we were
going
to be in good shape. Jeff's trailer came pulling in with a
shredded tire and two other soft ones. It then decided it was
going to start raining on us. We had to get a tire installed
onto
his trailer and new valve stems put in two other tires.
Company
that changed his tire bent one of the axles on the trailer and it
basically poured on us all day there. We were at the service
area
from about 8:30 that morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. By the
time we reached Bancroft it was about 9:30 and it was pouring.
Our tarpaper job from the last trip had blown up in the wind
in
some spots and we had water coming into the cabin through the roof.
We did a quick fix for the night but it was a miserable, wet
and
cold weekend. We were supposed to stay until Monday but left
on
Sunday because we were tired of all the rain. We did end up
getting the roof shingled, the floor boards installed, the outside
boards installed, the folding table and shelves inside and the
woodstove installed. So although it was miserable we did get
a
lot accomplished. Most importantly we got the tractor up
there
and had some gravel put down on the driveway.
